Early life and background

Pawan Kumar Sehrawat was born on 9 July 1997 in New Delhi and grew up in Bawana, Delhi. He attended Government Boys Senior Secondary School in Bawana and later studied at Delhi University. From an early age he played kabaddi at district and state levels, developing the raiding skills that would define his professional career.

Career

Sehrawat made his Pro Kabaddi League debut in Season 3 (2016). He quickly established himself as a leading raider, earning the nickname Hi-Flyer for his aerial and agile style. Across his early seasons he recorded strong numbers—one inaugural campaign saw him collect 45 raid points and 8 tackle points in 13 matches—and he went on to lead the league in raid points across multiple seasons.

He has represented several PKL franchises, including Bengaluru Bulls, Gujarat Giants and Tamil Thalaivas. In the auction for the 2022 season he was bought by Tamil Thalaivas for a reported 2.26 crore INR, making him the highest-paid player in the league at that time. His individual milestones include being the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2018, finishing as top raider in consecutive seasons (2018, 2019 and 2021), scoring the most points in a single match (39) and registering 22 points in a final match against Gujarat Giants. At the international level he was part of the Indian team that won gold at the 2019 South Asian Games.

In April 2023, JSW Sports announced that Sehrawat had been appointed Assistant Manager at the Reserve Bank of India, a notable administrative role alongside his sporting career. He was honored with the Arjuna Award on 9 January 2024 in recognition of his performances.

Playing style and persona

Sehrawat is best known for a signature running hand touch that pairs speed with unpredictability as he aims to grab defenders’ hands and escape to the safe zone. Fans and teammates commonly call him Hi-Flyer in reference to his aerial raids and athleticism. He wears jersey number 17, a number he has mentioned is personally significant to him.

Public profile

Pawan maintains an active presence on social media and engages followers through a YouTube channel where he posts daily-life videos, fitness content, training routines and behind-the-scenes material; the channel has grown a sizeable subscriber base. He has worked with sports nutrition and fitness brands, including Fast&Up and Optimum Nutrition, as part of sponsorship arrangements.

Sehrawat is a vegetarian and balances his sporting commitments with a regular gym regimen. Off the mat he enjoys badminton, travel, spending time in nature and listening to music. He is also known to enjoy coffee, with Starbucks among the cafes he has mentioned, and is fond of Delhi street food.

Personal life

Sehrawat comes from a family in Bawana. His father is Rajbeer Singh; he has an elder brother, Vikas Sehrawat, and a younger sister, Pooja. He is unmarried. He follows Hinduism and identifies with the Jatt community.

Latest updates

Sehrawat’s résumé includes leading scoring performances in the Pro Kabaddi League, a gold medal at the South Asian Games and recognition from the Indian government with the Arjuna Award. After the 2022 auction and subsequent move to Tamil Thalaivas he suffered an injury in the opening match of that tournament. Reports from his former coach indicate they reconciled on a personal level following that period and expressed hope for his recovery and return to top form.

He continues to split time between professional kabaddi, his role with the Reserve Bank of India and public engagements, remaining one of the most prominent Indian raiders of his generation.
