Early life and backgroundPooja Ramachandran was born on 22 March 1984 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, into a Malayali family with an army background. Her father served in the armed forces. She grew up in Bengaluru and attended Baldwin Girls' High School before studying at Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Coonoor and later completing a B.Sc. in Visual Communication from Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore.
Pooja’s childhood included an early introduction to the camera—she landed her first commercial at the age of eight. Raised in a family that encouraged sports and outdoor pursuits, she trained in activities such as swimming, horse riding and classical dance forms including Kathakali and Bharatanatyam. She also competed in shuttle and achieved district- and state-level distinction in Karnataka.

Pooja moved into modelling during her college years and won the Miss Coimbatore title in 2004. Her break in broadcasting came in 2006 when she emerged as one of the winners of SS Music’s Pan-India VJ talent hunt, VJ Factor 2.
