Posani Krishna Murali Biography
Posani Krishna Murali is a veteran Telugu film writer, actor, director and producer known for his prolific work behind the scenes and memorable on-screen,
Early life and backgroundPosani Krishna Murali was born on 22 January 1958 in Pedakakani, Andhra Pradesh, and grew up in the Guntur area. He completed his schooling in the Guntur district and went on to higher studies at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur and Presidency College in Bengaluru. His formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy; he had planned to pursue a Ph.D. but set that aside as his film career took shape.
Career
Posani began his film career after working briefly outside the industry. Early on he served as an assistant to writer-director Paruchuri Gopala Krishna and worked with the Paruchuri Brothers as an assistant writer for several years. Those formative experiences helped him move into independent writing: his credited early film work includes Police Brothers (1992), and he contributed to notable Telugu features such as Gaayam (1993), Rakshana (1993), Alluda Majaka (1995), Pavitra Bandham (1996) and Preminchukundam Raa (1997).
He has been involved in many aspects of filmmaking—script and dialogue writing, directing, producing and performing. Posani made his directorial debut with Sravanamasam in 2005 and later wrote and directed films including Operation Duryodhana (2007), Apadamokkulavadu (2008) and Dushasana (2011). As a screenwriter he provided story and dialogue for titles such as Khaidi Inspector (1995), Adavi Dora (1995), Ravanna (2000) and Seetayya (2003).
Posani transitioned to acting in a wide variety of supporting and comic roles and has appeared in numerous Telugu films. His acting credits extend back to at least the early 1990s, with a small part in Dharma Kshetram (1992), and include performances in Naayak (2013)—for which he received a SIIMA nomination in the best comic actor category—Temper (2015), James Bond (2015), Saakshyam (2018), Most Eligible Bachelor (2021), Itlu Amma (2021) and 18 Pages (2022). He also featured in the Kannada-language period action film Kabzaa, released in March 2023.
On television and streaming platforms he has worked as a host and actor. He hosted the Zee Telugu show Bathuku Jataka Bandi in 2017 and has appeared in web series such as Gangstars (2018) on Amazon Prime Video and In the Name of God (2021) on Aha.
Public profile
Posani has been active politically as well as artistically. He joined the Praja Rajyam Party on 3 January 2009 and contested the 2009 Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly elections from the Chilakaluripet constituency on that party’s ticket, but did not win. In 2011 he left Praja Rajyam Party and became a member of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party. His public life has sometimes been contentious: in late September 2021 an incident involving stone-throwing at his residence and related public exchanges drew police attention and arrests.
Personal life
Posani is married to Kusuma Latha. The couple have two sons, Ujwal Posani and Prajwal Posani, the latter of whom works as a director. His parents were Posani Subba Rao and his mother, who was a homemaker. He has siblings including an elder sister Rajyalakshmi, a younger sister Prameela and a younger brother, Posani Amar Bhosale. He is also related to filmmakers Koratala Siva and Boyapati Srinu, who are identified as his cousins.
He is known for a tall on-screen presence—listed at about 178 cm (5'10")—with brown eyes and black hair. Among his possessions noted publicly are cars such as a Verna and an Innova. Asset details available from 2009 filings list a variety of movable and immovable holdings; those figures are historical estimates and exclude his wife’s and dependents’ assets.
