Early life and background

Pradeep Gawande was born on 9 December 1980 in Pune, Maharashtra, where he is also described as having his hometown. He trained as a medical doctor at Government Medical College, Aurangabad, earning an MBBS before moving into the civil services.

Career

Gawande joined the Indian Administrative Service after clearing the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2012, securing an all-India rank of 478 and entering the 2013 batch. He was allotted the Rajasthan cadre and began his administrative career with field-level training in Bundi as an assistant collector.

Over the following years he occupied a sequence of administrative posts across Rajasthan and at the central level. In 2015 he had assignments that included a role as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Chemical Fertilizers and a posting as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Dholpur. From November 2016 to May 2018 he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Jodhpur Zilla Parishad. He then moved to Bikaner where he served as CEO of the Bikaner Municipal Council from April 2018 until February 2020.

On 2 July 2020 Gawande took charge as Collector of Churu, a position he held until early January 2021. Soon after, he assumed the role of Managing Director of the Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC), serving from 4 January 2021 until October 2021. In March 2022 he was posted as Director of Archaeology & Museums for Rajasthan.
