Pranay Rane was born on 16 September 2002 in Kankavali, Maharashtra. He grew up in his hometown and attended S M High School in Kankavali. After finishing school he moved to Mumbai to pursue engineering at Rizvi College, but his commitment to kabaddi led him to transfer to M D College of Arts, Science and Commerce, where he was able to resume competitive play at both college and university levels.

Pranay comes from a family that includes his father, Suryakant Rane, and a brother, Prajwal Rane. He follows Hinduism and is unmarried.

Career

Pranay began building his kabaddi career during his college years. After graduating he took a job with the Bank of Baroda while continuing to pursue the sport locally. Playing for a local side called BPT brought him to wider attention and ultimately opened the door to professional kabaddi.

A left-side raider by trade, Pranay joined U Mumba ahead of Season 9 of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2022. He made his debut in that season and featured in 11 matches. Across those appearances he recorded a raid strike rate of 53 percent and a tackle strike rate of 25 percent, finishing the campaign with 26 points overall.

His coach and mentor is Gholamreza Mazandarani. In March 2023 he was recognized as the Top Raider of the Tournament at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chashak Maharashtra State Level Kabaddi Championship.

In 2023 U Mumba retained him in the New Young Player category for the upcoming Season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League with a retention amount of Rs. 13 Lakh.
