Pranjali Awasthi Biography
Indian-born entrepreneur who founded Delv.AI and raised $450,000 for her AI startup as a teenager. Moved to Florida as a child, completed high school in ️
Early life and backgroundPranjali Awasthi was born in India in 2007 and moved with her family to Florida when she was 11. She grew up in an environment that emphasized academics and practical skills; her father, an engineer, taught her to code when she was seven and became an early source of inspiration for her interest in computer science.
Pranjali attended Doral Academy Charter High School and completed her high school requirements online, finishing in June 2023. While still in school she pursued advanced coursework, scoring a 35 on the ACT in 2022 and earning top AP scores in Calculus BC, Computer Science, and Physics. Her education also included an early internship experience at Florida International University and later research work at the Schwartz Center for Computational Neuroscience at UC San Diego.
Career
Pranjali’s entrepreneurship grew out of hands-on research experience and a desire to solve practical problems. During an internship at UC San Diego she confronted the difficulty researchers face when trying to locate precise information across a rapidly expanding body of digital content. That problem sparked her interest in applying artificial intelligence to improve search and data retrieval for researchers.
She founded Delv.AI, a company focused on helping researchers extract specific information and compile literature more efficiently. Exposure to new AI models in 2020 convinced her of the potential for machine learning to streamline research workflows, a conviction that guided Delv.AI’s early development.
In 2021 Pranjali participated in Miami Hack Week, where she connected with partners from Backend Capital who ran the HF0 residency, a 12-week startup accelerator. She joined the HF0 program in September 2021 and used the residency period to develop Delv.AI and to present a beta version of the product on Product Hunt. The launch coincided with her fifteenth birthday and the product reached the third most popular spot on Product Hunt that day.
Her time in HF0 led to initial investments from organizations including On Deck and Village Global, which funded her first engineering hires and work toward a minimum viable product in early 2022. Subsequent fundraising brought a total of $450,000 from a mix of funds and angel investors, including Lucy Guo and Village Global, and the company’s valuation rose to around $12 million.
Alongside Delv.AI, Pranjali has worked on Indic Valley, a digital platform she developed to market handcrafted products made by rural Indian artisans. Inspired by time spent with her grandfather and his work mentoring village youth, she built Indic Valley to help artisans sell directly and retain more value from their creations. She onboarded roughly 30 artisans and worked on product selection, logistics, and platform infrastructure despite pandemic constraints.
Public profile
Pranjali has been recognized through a number of fellowships and awards, including designation as an HF0 Fellow through Backend Capital, an IEEE Rising Star honor from IEEE Canada Young Professionals Committee, an associate membership from the Masason Foundation, and qualification in AIME from the Mathematics Association of America. She has also spoken publicly about AI and machine learning, delivering keynote remarks at events such as Rising 2021: Women in AI and presenting on machine learning in healthcare at the AI Summit in New York.
Her profile as a young founder and advocate for AI education has had tangible local impact: her former high school dedicated a building to AI-focused coursework and related areas like blockchain and cybersecurity, an initiative associated with her influence and outreach.
Latest updates
Pranjali completed high school in June 2023 after balancing remote learning with her startup commitments. Her parents supported a pause in traditional college enrollment so she could focus on building her businesses, though she has said she may consider attending college later to study additional business-related subjects such as law and psychology.
She continues to develop Delv.AI and remains active in the AI community, leveraging relationships made during accelerator programs and fellowships to advance her company’s goals.
