Early life and background

Prasad Vasant Sutar grew up in Kalyan, Maharashtra, and developed an interest in drawing and painting from a young age. He attended Sri Vani Vidyashala High School in Kalyan and later took a commerce course at Nagpur University (now Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University). He also completed a desktop publishing (DTP) course, which paved the way for his early entry into post-production and visual effects work.

Career

Sutar’s professional path moved from DTP work into visual effects. He began as a 3D animator and spent the early part of his career learning animation and modeling. In 1997 he worked at Maya Entertainment in Mumbai as a 3D animator, then joined CMM Studios in 1998 as an assistant VFX supervisor and digital compositor. During that period he contributed to the digital effects teams on several mainstream Hindi films, gaining experience on titles including Ghulam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hindustan Ki Kasam, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega…, Raju Chacha and Hera Pheri.

He returned to Maya Entertainment in 2001, taking on the roles of visual effects supervisor and senior compositor and working on films such as Awara Paagal Deewana, Khiladi 420 and Jajantaram Mamantaram. In 2004 Sutar joined EFX, the Mumbai division of Prasad Corp, as a visual effects supervisor and worked on projects including Khakee, Being Cyrus, Krrish and Alag. His work on Alag earned him a Zee Cine Awards nomination for Best Visual Effects.

Sutar continued to build his career at PIXION in Mumbai from 2007, contributing to films like Fashion, Dabangg and Prince. Over time he progressed from CGI animator and digital compositor to VFX supervisor and head of VFX departments on major productions.

In 2015 he co-founded NY VFXWAALA with VFX supervisor Naveen Paul in partnership with Ajay Devgn Films. The company provides post-production, VFX, DI and animation services, and is noted for adopting technologies such as LIDAR. Under Sutar’s leadership NY VFXWAALA handled the visual effects departments on notable Hindi films including Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Drishyam, Tamasha and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The studio’s work on Shivaay and Bajirao Mastani brought it significant industry recognition, and the company expanded into digital intermediate services under the name NY DI-WAALA.
