Prashanthini Vasudevan was born on 28 September 1983 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in a musically inclined household, she is the daughter of Malaysian-Indian playback singer and actor Malaysia Vasudevan and Usha. Her brother Yugendran Vasudevan is an actor and singer based in Singapore. From an early age she participated in singing events, and she completed a bachelor’s degree in computer science before pursuing a full-time career in playback singing.

Career

Prashanthini made her playback debut in Tamil cinema with the song "Love Pannu" for the film 12B (2001). After finishing her studies and getting married, she returned to film singing with a track in GV Prakash’s Veyil. That early work led to more opportunities with prominent composers.

Her profile rose significantly after she recorded the song "Mundhinam Parthene" for the 2008 film Vaaranam Aayiram, a recording that she has described as a turning point in her career. Several of her subsequent songs have performed well on radio: "Ayyayo" from Aadukalam (2011), "Lolita" from Engeyum Kaadhal (2011), and "Enamo Aedho" from Ko (2011) were among popular tracks during that period.
