Prashasti Singh Biography

Prashasti Singh is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer and improviser from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. An engineer by training who later earned a PGDM from IIM‑

Early life and background

Prashasti Singh was born in 1987 and grew up in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. She attended Delhi Public School R.K. Puram in New Delhi and went on to study engineering at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication. After several years in the corporate world she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from the Indian Institutes of Management, Lucknow.

Prashasti has described herself as close to her father and credits him with helping shape her sense of humour. Her family includes her mother Bharti Singh, who worked as a teacher, and a brother, Samyak Singh, who is a singer and songwriter. She is unmarried.

Career

Prashasti began her professional life in the corporate sector in 2009. Her early roles included working as a business technology analyst at Deloitte Consulting, a senior analyst role at Dell, and a marketing internship at Procter & Gamble. She later spent four years as a category head at Star TV Network, a period during which she reached financial stability and began exploring performance work outside the office.

Her first exposure to improvisational performance came through an improv class she joined to break the routine of corporate life. The class introduced her to peers who encouraged her to try open mic nights. Although her academic and professional background emphasized technical and business communication in English, Prashasti’s natural comfort with Hindi influenced her comic voice. She has said that seeing other comedians perform in Hindi helped her prioritise ideas and storytelling over language constraints.

Prashasti made her television debut in 2018 on Comicstaan Season 1, an Amazon Prime stand-up comedy competition series. While she did not win the show, her appearance helped her build a loyal audience. That same year she participated in an Amazon Prime Video marketing campaign for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, joining other female comedians for short performances in period costume to promote the series.

In 2019 she performed at Spoken Fest, delivering a set that combined humour with emotional storytelling about her parents. The routine, which presented her mother as a transforming figure following the death of her father, was noted for balancing vulnerability with comedy.

In 2020 Prashasti appeared in Ladies Up, a Netflix all-women stand-up special, further expanding her visibility on streaming platforms.

Public profile

Prashasti’s comedy is rooted in anecdotal material drawn from her own life and experiences. She works as a stand-up comic, writer, actor and improviser, and has cited comedians such as Ali Wong among her favourites. Her onstage style leans on personal stories delivered in a way that connects with audiences across language backgrounds.

Physically, she is listed at approximately 163 cm (about 5'4") with black hair and black eyes.
