Early life and backgroundPratibha Verma was born in 1993 and hails from the village of Manpur in Sarpatha Thana, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a middle-class family, she belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC) category and follows Hinduism. Her parents, Sudhansh Verma and Usha Verma, both worked as teachers. She has three siblings: two brothers, Sudhir and Abhishek, and a sister, Priyanka.
Pratibha completed her schooling in Sultanpur. She attended Raj Saraswati Bal Vidya Mandir for her 10th class studies and later studied at Kamla Nehru Institute of Child Education for intermediate. She performed strongly in board examinations, securing a top-three position in the Uttar Pradesh 10th board exam in 2008 and ranking among top students in her 12th CBSE board exams.
Career
Pratibha studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi from 2010 to 2014, graduating with a B.Tech. in Engineering Physics. While at IIT Delhi she was active in extracurriculars including dance, dramatics, stage and street plays, filmmaking, quizzing and debating. She also took part in the National Service Scheme between 2010 and 2012 and volunteered with an NGO named Vidya, which focuses on education and empowerment initiatives for underprivileged children, youth and women.
After graduating, she joined Vodafone India in an IT role. She worked there from June 2015, initially as an Assistant Manager of IT and later held the position of Deputy Manager of IT before leaving the company in July 2016.
Pratibha entered the Indian civil services and secured the third rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2019. Following that success, she joined the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) as a probationary Forest Officer in August 2019 and served in that capacity until December 2019. In December 2019 she took up a probationary appointment in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) as an Income Tax Officer. She left that post in August 2020 after her UPSC CSE 2019 result.
