Pravin Jadhav Biography

Pravin Jadhav is an Indian recurve archer from Satara district, Maharashtra. Rising from a very modest background, he came through the Krida Prabodhini and

Early life and background

Pravin Jadhav was born on 6 July 1996 in Sarde village, Satara district, Maharashtra. He grew up in a family with limited means; his father, Ramesh Jadhav, worked as a daily-wage labourer and his mother, Sangita Jadhav, was a homemaker. Education and sport became the route out of hardship for him. He attended Krida Prabhodani School in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, and later trained at Krida Prabodhini’s sports facilities in Balewadi and Amravati.

As a child he initially trained as a runner, showing promise in middle-distance events such as the 400m and 800m. Under the guidance of a primary school teacher, Baban Bhujbal, who arranged nutritional support and coaching, Jadhav developed physically and athletically. Tests at the sports school eventually indicated that his best prospects lay in archery, and he was switched to specialist archery training at a young age.

Career

Jadhav’s entry into archery was not straightforward. Early training emphasised discipline and low-cost equipment, and he spent significant time learning with basic gear before advancing to professional bows. He faced setbacks — physical weakness and shoulder pain from handling a recurve bow nearly led to his release from the programme. Determination and the support of mentors enabled him to earn another chance; after proving himself with a series of trial shots, he remained in the system and began to progress steadily.

At 19, Jadhav earned selection for India’s team at the Asia Cup stage in Bangkok in 2015, where he contributed to a team bronze in the recurve event. Over the following years he accumulated international experience: from 2015 to 2019 he appeared in six international tournaments and won two medals. A career highlight came in June 2019 when he was part of the Indian recurve team that won a silver medal at the World Archery Championships in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. That performance also helped secure an Olympic quota for India, and the team qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In 2017 Jadhav joined the Indian Army under the sports quota, a move that brought greater financial stability. That same year he captured a national title, winning gold at the national championship in Cuttack, Odisha. Financial assistance from government rewards for representing India helped him cover the cost of essential archery equipment and relieve his family’s economic pressures.

Public profile

Jadhav is known within Indian archery as a persistent athlete who overcame early physical limitations and poverty to reach the international stage. He has trained under coaches associated with Krida Prabodhini and worked with mentors such as Baban Bhujbal and coach Praful Dange during his development. His listed physical profile includes a height of 174 cm (1.74 m) and brown eyes and black hair.

Latest updates

By 2019 Jadhav had helped India reach the World Archery Championships final and secure a place at the Tokyo Olympics. He continues to represent India in recurve archery and remains connected to the institutions that supported his development, including Krida Prabodhini and the Indian Army under the sports quota.
