Early life and background

Prem Parija hails from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He attended St. Joseph’s High School in Bhubaneswar before moving to Delhi, where he studied at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram and later at Hansraj College. While at Hansraj he became an active member of the college dramatic society, which played a formative role in his early theatre experience.

Career

Parija began his film career working behind the camera. His first credited work as an assistant director was on the Hindi film Welcome 2 Karachi (2015). He continued in that capacity on several Hindi features, including Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015), Lucknow Central (2017) and Baazaar (2018). In 2016 he worked as a second assistant director on the Netflix series Sense8, gaining experience on an international production.

Alongside his work as an assistant director, Parija has pursued acting. He appeared in the Hindi short film Sariwala in 2014 playing the character Raghu. He went on to take acting roles on screen, most notably in the 2023 Hotstar Specials action web series Commando, in which he portrayed the character Viraat. That same year he remained active on stage, participating in a Mumbai theatrical production titled Manthan in May 2023.

Parija has sought formal acting training abroad, completing method acting coursework at The Lee Strasberg School of Theatre and Film in New York. He cites Lee Strasberg as a mentor and has brought that training into his stage and screen work.
