Early life and background

Premila Morar was born on 24 January 2001 in Pukekohe East, Auckland, New Zealand. She grew up there and attended Pukekohe High School before pursuing further education at Massey University College of Creative Arts (CoCA), where she completed a Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Fashion.

During her school years she participated in sports and was active in college life; she received a prom title in 2017 at her college event. She is of Indian descent and comes from a family that includes her parents, J. Morar Naik and Mina Morar, and a brother named Kalpesh Morar.

Career

Morar's early work experience spans a range of retail, hospitality and seasonal roles across Auckland. She held short-term positions including part-time retail and front-of-house roles, a Fruit Picker, seasonal farmhand, and sales positions. In 2018 she worked briefly at Fashion Sales Shop No. 9 in Auckland and later took on roles such as Front of House at a local restaurant and a seasonal seller with Cookie Time Ltd.

Her involvement in the fashion industry grew with roles tied to events and design. In October 2019 she served as Head Usher for Fashion Week NZ in Auckland. She later worked as a Fashion Design Assistant at Hotmilk Lingerie for several months beginning in November 2022. In September 2023 she joined Cotton On Group in Victoria, Australia, as a Product Developer Assistant.

Morar also worked in product and retail environments including a sales role at Nirvana Eastern Imports and short-term roles at The Food Dudes NZ. Alongside these positions she has been involved in her family business as a Seasonal Farmhand at Morar Parsot Sons.

Design work and label

Premila is the founder of Morar Fashions, a label she uses to present her own collections. In 2022 she launched the MORAR Graduate Collection under that label and received recognition in the form of the Fabric Warehouse Design & Innovation Award the same year.
