Early life and background

Priyadarshi Pulikonda was born on 25 August 1989 in Khammam and grew up in Telangana. He spent his childhood in several parts of Hyderabad, including the old city, Gachibowli and Chandanagar. His family speaks Telugu; his father, Pulikonda Subbachari, worked as a professor while his mother is Pulikonda Jayalakshmi. Priyadarshi moved to Hyderabad with his parents when he was two.

He completed a Bachelor of Science in Statistics at MNR Degree & PG College, Hyderabad, and later studied Mass Communication at the University of Hyderabad. While at university he joined the campus theatre group and also trained under Aruna Bikshu to develop his acting skills. A childhood viewing of the film Sagara Sangamam inspired his interest in acting.

Career

Priyadarshi began his film career in 2016, making his debut in the Telugu film Terror. The same year he came to wider notice for his comic portrayal of Kaushik in the romantic comedy Pelli Choopulu, a role that brought him early accolades and established him as a performer with strong comic timing.

Following Pelli Choopulu, Priyadarshi took on supporting roles in a number of South Indian films, including The Ghazi Attack, Winner, Arjun Reddy, Jai Lava Kusa and Spyder. He also appeared in the Malayalam film Take Off in 2017, playing a Tamil refugee caught up in the conflict in Iraq. Over the next several years he featured in films such as Awe, Nela Ticket, NOTA and Mr. Majnu.

Priyadarshi’s first lead role came in the biopic Mallesham, in which he played the inventor Chintakindi Mallesham; the film was later made available on Netflix. He has since taken on lead roles in other films including Mail (2021) and Balagam (2023). Critics and audiences have singled out his performances in Jathirathanlu (2021) and Oke Oka Jeevitham (2022) for praise.

Across a career spanning six years from his debut, he has worked in more than 50 films. He has also diversified into web series and streaming content: in 2020 he appeared as Suri Yadav in the ZEE5 series Loser and returned for its sequel; he played Aadi in the Aha series In the Name of God; and he featured in Disney+ Hotstar projects including the anthology Unheard and the comedy series Save The Tigers, in which he played Ghanta Ravi.

Beyond acting he has written and directed short films, with credits including Ponnu Vaadu (2012) and The Delivery (2019). He worked as a writer on the Kannada film Dakota Picture (2012) and has lent his voice as a dubbing artist in Telugu versions of films, including providing the voice for an animated character in Frozen 2 and dubbing for the Telugu version of Thaanaa Serndha Koottam.
