Prudhvi Raj Balireddy is an Indian actor and politician from Tadepalligudem, Andhra Pradesh, known for his comic roles in Telugu cinema and his involvement

Early life and background

Prudhvi Raj Balireddy was born on 6 August 1964 in Tadepalligudem, Andhra Pradesh. He grew up in a family of farmers and showed an early interest in performing, regularly taking part in school stage shows and cultural programs. He attended Sacred Heart Girls' High School, Vivekananda School in Ramachandrapuram, and SVA Government College. For higher studies he attended Osmania University, Chaitanya Degree and Post Graduate College, and Andhra University, where he earned an MA in Economics.

Career

Prudhvi Raj made his film debut in 1986 with the Telugu movie Khaidi No. 420 and appeared that same year in Ladies Tailor. Over the following decade he built a steady career in Telugu cinema with roles in films such as Aa Okkati Adakku (1992), Ganesh (1998), Chandralekha (1998), Samudram (1999), Bachi (2000) and Devullu (2000). In 1997 he played a Naxalite in Sindhooram, and his work earned him more varied opportunities.

Before his breakthrough he held jobs outside the film industry, including stints as a receptionist at a guest house and work in a hotel. A notable moment in his career came with the 2002 film Khadgam; a dialogue from that film brought him wider recognition and led to an increase in offers from filmmakers.

Prudhvi Raj is especially known for his comic timing, distinctive dialogue delivery and on-screen persona. His role as Boiling Star Bablu in the 2014 film Loukyam popularized that sobriquet. He has worked with many leading figures in Tollywood, including Ravi Teja, Daggubati Venkatesh, Ram Charan, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Rajendra Prasad, Allu Arjun, Tottempudi Gopichand and Nithiin.

While his main body of work is in Telugu cinema, he has also appeared in Tamil films. He played the role of Murthy in the 2006 Tamil film Pudhupettai and later appeared in Tamil projects including Oru Nodiyil (2016) and Parris Jeyaraj (2021).

Public profile

Beyond acting, Prudhvi Raj has been active in politics. In 2019 he was appointed state secretary of the YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh. That same year he became President of the Sri Venkateswara Bhakthi Channel (SVBC). In January 2020 he resigned from the SVBC presidency after large employee protests that followed the circulation of an audio recording in which he was heard speaking with a woman employee of the channel.

Prudhvi Raj has said that he regards actor-producer Rao Gopal Rao as a role model. He maintains a fitness routine and is known to be a regular at the gym. He is also an avid dog lover.

Personal life

Prudhvi Raj is married to politician Kalvakuntla Kavitha. The couple have two children: a son, Srinivas Ballireddy, and a daughter, Ramya. His father is Balireddy Subbarao; his mother's name is not listed in the available information. He holds Indian nationality and follows Hinduism. His height is reported as approximately 172 cm (about 5 feet 8 inches), with black hair and black eyes.

Controversies

A legal complaint filed in 2016 by his wife, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, alleged domestic harassment and led to police registering a case under Sections 420 and 498-A of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint described details of their relationship history and raised accusations that prompted official action at the time.

Latest updates

In recent years Prudhvi Raj has continued to be visible in the Telugu film industry while also maintaining his political involvement.
