Pushkar Singh Dhami was born on 16 September 1975 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. He grew up in the Khatima area of Udham Singh Nagar and later completed an LLB from Lucknow University. Dhami briefly lost the Khatima seat in the 2022 assembly elections to the Congress candidate Bhuwan Kapri, but on 3 June 2022 he won the Champawat bypoll by a large margin and was sworn in again as a member of the Uttarakhand Assembly on 13 June 2022. He was sworn in for a second term as chief minister on 23 March 2022 at Dehradun's Parade Ground in a ceremony attended by senior national leaders.
