Early life and background

Radhika Gupta was born on 14 September 1983 at the Indian Consulate in Islamabad. She is the daughter of Yogesh Gupta, a retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, and Arti Gupta, a teacher. Growing up in a family that moved across countries because of her father’s diplomatic career, she attended schools in different nations, including Delhi Public School, the American International School of Abuja, and Marymount International School Rome. As a student at Marymount she graduated with top marks and was chosen as the school valedictorian.

Radhika completed her university studies at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, as part of the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology, earning degrees in Computer Science Engineering (BSE) and Economics (B.Sc.). She graduated summa cum laude in 2005. During college she worked on campus—initially as a computer lab assistant and later as a teaching assistant—and interned at Microsoft between 2004 and 2005.

Career

After graduation Radhika began her professional career as a business analyst at McKinsey & Company, where she worked on strategy assignments for clients across technology, pharmaceutical, and retail sectors. From 2006 to 2009 she was a portfolio manager at AQR Capital Management.

In 2009, amid the global financial crisis, Radhika returned to India to become an entrepreneur. With her husband Nalin Moniz and a colleague from AQR, she co-founded Forefront Capital Management in Mumbai. After nearly four years of running Forefront, the firm’s operations were acquired by Edelweiss Group in 2014. Radhika joined Edelweiss as a business head and, in 2017, she was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Edelweiss Asset Management Limited. At 33, she became one of the youngest CEOs in India’s financial services sector.

Under her leadership Edelweiss won the mandate to co-manage the Government of India’s Corporate Debt ETF accounts in 2019, a contract won against larger asset management competitors. She has delivered public talks, including a TEDx presentation in October 2017, and represented the company at industry and public forums.
