Early life and background

Raghav Chadha was born on 11 November 1988 in Delhi and grew up in the city he still lists as his hometown. He completed his schooling at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi. After one year of undergraduate study at Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University, he focused on qualifying as a chartered accountant. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Delhi in 2009 and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2011. He has also attended programs at the London School of Economics.

Before entering politics, Chadha worked professionally as a chartered accountant with multinational firms including Deloitte and Grant Thornton. He was building a practice in London when the India Against Corruption movement emerged; that period led to his deeper involvement in public life.

Career

Chadha joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) soon after its formation in 2012. Early on he served as the party treasurer and later acted as an adviser to Delhi’s finance minister in 2016 for a brief period. In 2018 he took responsibility for the party’s work in South Delhi ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and contested the South Delhi parliamentary seat in 2019.

In February 2020 Chadha contested and won the Delhi Assembly election from Rajinder Nagar, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate in that constituency. In March 2022 the Aam Aadmi Party nominated him to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab, and following the party’s victory in the state that month he was appointed by the chief minister as chairman of an advisory panel.

Besides formal political roles, Chadha has been a prominent AAP spokesperson and a frequent participant in television debates representing his party.

The Rajya Sabha chairman revoked his suspension in December 2023 after a motion in the House.
