Early life and background

Raghu Ram Ambadapudi was born on 15 April 1975 in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He and his twin brother were raised in a family that later moved to Delhi, where he completed his schooling. His father worked as a chartered accountant and his mother, Radha Viswanath, is a journalist and author. Raghu attended multiple colleges during his undergraduate years, including Deshbandhu College and Sri Venkateswara College in New Delhi and Osmania University in Hyderabad, and is a graduate. He grew up in Delhi and lists the city as his hometown.

Career

Raghu Ram began his career in television as an intern with the TV18 Group and later worked on a BBC travel show. His early role in production was as supervising producer on MTV Love Line in 1998. He is best known for creating and judging the reality series MTV Roadies, which he helped develop as an experimental project in 2000 and remained associated with as a judge from 2003 until 2014. The show became one of Indian television’s longest-running reality formats during that period.

Beyond Roadies, Raghu has worked across television, film and digital content. He appeared in the Bollywood film Tees Maar Khan (2010). In digital media he co-created and produced the web series A.I.SHA My Virtual Girlfriend in 2016 and acted in it; his performance in that series earned him a Digital Award for best actor in a negative role. He and his brother also launched the reality show Dropout Pvt Ltd in 2017 on MTV and later developed the Amazon Prime Video reality show Skulls & Roses in 2019.

Raghu is a co-founder of the content company Monozygotics, established in 2014 after he and his brother left MTV Roadies. He has also lent his voice to music projects associated with Roadies, including the title track for Roadies 9, which received a GIMA nomination.
