Raj Kaushal was born on 24 July 1970 in Mumbai and raised in the city where he also completed his schooling at St. Anne’s High School and later attended the University of Mumbai. He was known to be a Mumbai native throughout his life and carried a straightforward personal style that friends and colleagues often described as honest and unpretentious.

Career

Kaushal worked across multiple roles in Hindi film and television production. Early in his career he served as a chief assistant and built experience in stunt direction. He is credited with directing stunts for the 1992 film Bekhudi. Over time he expanded his work into writing, producing and directing feature films. His directing credits include Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999), Shaadi Ka Laddoo (2004) and Anthony Kaun Hai (2006). Raj Kaushal married actor and television presenter Mandira Bedi on 14 February 1999. The couple completed two wedding ceremonies: an Arya Samaj ritual followed by an Anand Karaj. They lived in Mumbai and had two children: a son, Vir Kaushal, and a daughter, Tara Bedi Kaushal, who was adopted in 2020. Kaushal was known to be a dog lover and kept a pet named Jay.
