Rajat Sood Biography

Rajat Sood is an Indian stand-up pomedy artist, host, writer and creative director from Delhi. Known for blending poetry with comedy, he rose to wider fame

Early life and background
Rajat Sood was born on 10 November 1996 in Delhi, India. Raised in a middle-class household, he spent his school years in the national capital, attending Sri Guru Nanak Public School and later Titiksha Public School. From an early age he combined strong academic performance with active involvement in sports and extracurriculars—earning repeated scholar badges, captaining school teams in cricket and kho-kho, and leading his NCC batch for a national camp with the Delhi Battalion-6.

After school, Sood enrolled at Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University), where he completed a B.Tech. During his college years he immersed himself in campus cultural life, joining the music society Madhurima and the literary and debating society Sahitya. It was in college that he began writing and performing his own poetry, laying the groundwork for the hybrid performance style that defines his work.

Career
Rajat Sood’s professional path has combined event management, hosting, writing and performance. He started in the events space in March 2016 as an Event Executive with Clock Work Events, working on auditions for India’s Got Talent: Season 7 and managing logistics for large numbers of participants. In January 2018 he took on the role of Head of Hospitality at Engifest DTU, leading a team of about 150 and overseeing hospitality for visiting artists and speakers.

His event work included hosting concerts for Punjabi singers such as Guri and Mankirt Aulakh, and serving as chief event coordinator for the Paralympics Sports Meet 2018 organised by the Sports Authority of India. In February 2020 he hosted two live talk shows for The Viral Fever, featuring casts from TVF productions.

On stage, Sood developed a distinctive format he calls “pomedy” — a fusion of poetry and comedy. His solo show Khayaalbaaz has been presented at roughly 50 college and festival stages across about 10 Indian cities, including performances at IITs, BITS Pilani, DTU and several medical and engineering colleges. That blend of lyrical writing and humour became a hallmark of his live appearances.

Sood first reached television audiences as a contestant on the poetry reality show Sau Karod Ka Kavi, which aired on DD Kisaan and DD National in 2021; he was among the finalists. The following year he appeared as a contestant on Sony TV’s comedy reality show India’s Laughter Champion, which expanded his national visibility.

Alongside performing, Sood has worked behind the scenes in creative roles. He contributed as a lyricist, rapper and creative director at Full Power Entertainment on projects including The 21st Century Song and The Pehla Nasha Parody. In November 2021 he joined Stars N Stripes Media Pvt Ltd as a creative director, producing network-generated content for shows aired by Viacom18 across Colors and MTV channels.

He has also built an independent digital presence: his self-titled YouTube channel was launched in March 2019 to host comedy and poetry videos and had around 12.9K subscribers as of 2022. As an emcee, Sood has hosted more than 100 public events spanning cultural, technical, motivational, corporate and private formats.

Public profile
Sood performs under the nickname RS and is known for being a showman who enjoys stage work. Physically, his height is listed as approximately 170 cm (5'7"), with black eyes and dark brown hair. He is unmarried and makes travel a leisure priority when not performing or producing content. Sood maintains an Instagram presence under his name.
