Rajesh Das was born on 31 December 1963 in Odisha (then Orissa), India. He completed advanced studies, holding a Master of Arts and an M. Phil degree before joining the civil services. The matter proceeded through the criminal justice system. After a trial lasting approximately two years, on 16 June 2023 Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Pushparani in Villupuram convicted Rajesh Das of sexual harassment and under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman (Amendment) Act, 2002. The court imposed two fines of Rs 10,000 each and sentenced him to two concurrent three-year prison terms. He was subsequently granted bail to enable him to file an appeal.
