Early life and backgroundRajeshwari Sachdev was born and raised in Mumbai into a family with strong ties to the performing arts. Her father was involved with the Indian People’s Theatre Association in Mumbai, and Rajeshwari spent time with the group as a child. She began Bharatanatyam training at the age of five and continued classical dance studies for about 14 years. In school she took part in athletics and dance competitions, winning her first prize as the best school athlete.
She pursued higher education in Mumbai, completing an MA in English Literature at the University of Mumbai. Her early exposure to theatre through IPTA and her formal arts training helped shape a career that would span stage, screen and music.

Rajeshwari Sachdev’s professional credits include work across multiple Indian film industries, television and theatre. Her film debut was in Marathi cinema with Aayatya Gharat Gharoba (1991). She made early appearances in Hindi films including Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1993) and went on to act in Little Buddha (1993), Sardari Begum (1996) and other features across languages such as Punjabi and Urdu.
On television she has taken on varied roles, from the title role in Margarita (1997) to parts in serials like Om Namah Shivay, Laut Aao Trisha, Balika Vadhu, Peshwa Bajirao and Shaadi Mubarak. She was also a familiar television host: she co-hosted the long-running musical show Antakshari from 1994 to 2001 alongside Annu Kapoor and later presented shows such as K for Kishore.
Rajeshwari has remained active in theatre, performing in Hindi plays including Shabd Leela and Gauhar, and was involved with IPTA’s Balmanch group in her early years. As a recording artist she released the Punjabi album Mukhda Piya Ka in 2000 and a folk collection titled Ummang in 2004, and she has performed live at stage events and concerts.

Her family background reflects both Punjabi Sikh and Tamil Hindu heritage: her father Inderjeet Singh Sachdev was active with IPTA in Mumbai and her mother is Meenakshi Sachdev. She has a brother, Jagmohan Sachdev.
Outside of work she is an animal lover and has two pet dogs.
