Early life and background

Rajiv Thakur was born on 7 August and hails from Amritsar, Punjab. He attended Jagat Jyoti Model High School in Amritsar before moving on to DAV College for his undergraduate studies, where he completed a BCom. He later pursued a PGDCA at Khalsa College, Amritsar. During his college years he was active in theatre and cultural events, winning multiple Best Actor awards at college-level competitions and at least one national-level acting award.

Career

Thakur began his career in theatre, performing in numerous Hindi and Punjabi stage plays. His theatre credits include productions such as Eh Ta Kamaal Ho Gaya, Baba Bantuek Nayak Ki Maut, Mirch Masala, Saawi and Rab Milayiaan Jodiyan. He has also written and directed stage works, including Thag Da Nag, Hai Hai Cable TV, Aao Sach Vekho, Princess Diana and Bunty Aur Bubbly.

Transitioning from stage to screen, Thakur has worked in television and films in both Punjabi and Hindi. His film debut in Punjabi came with a cameo in Lakh Pardesi Hoiye (2008). He has acted in Hindi films, including Bhavnao Ko Samjho (2010), and appeared in cameo roles in Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar (2014), Second Hand Husband (2015) and Tutak Tutak Tutiya (2016). His Punjabi feature credits include Khich Ghuggi Khich (2010), Dangar Doctor Jelly (2017), Tara Mira (2019), and the 2023 releases Kanjoos Majnu Kharchili Laila and Zindagi Zindabaad.

On television, Thakur played Raju in the SAB TV sitcom Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo (2009). He took part in several televised comedy competitions and shows early in his screen career, including Hasde Hasande Ravo (2006), The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (2007) and multiple seasons of Comedy Circus on Sony. In 2009 he and his partner Saloni won the Colors show Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan. From 2016 onward he has been seen in various episodes of The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV. In 2023 he participated in the reality series Jhalak Dikhla Ja.

Thakur has also worked behind the camera: a Hindi film titled Way of Life (2005) is listed with him as director. He became a co-owner of the celebrity cricket team Jaipur Raj Joshiley in 2016, which competed in the Box Cricket League, and has taken part in matches for the team.
