Rajkumar Periasamy was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and celebrates his birthday on 22 October. He studied at Loyola College in Chennai, where he completed a B.Sc. in visual communication. From his college days he showed an interest in the entertainment industry, a trajectory that led him into film and television work in Tamil Nadu.

Career
Periasamy began his career working as an assistant director to AR Murugadoss. He was part of the crew on the Tamil films 7aum Arivu and Thuppakki, and later worked on Kaththi. Those early experiences in feature filmmaking helped him transition to directing his own projects.

He made his debut as a feature film director with Rangoon in 2017, a crime-action drama that brought him recognition and several awards, including Best Debut Director and Best Story at the Behindwoods Gold Medal Awards. He has continued to build his profile as a filmmaker, directing projects that reached theatrical release.

Alongside feature films, Periasamy has worked extensively in television. He has served as a program director and executive producer for Vijay Television, and directed the channel’s popular reality formats. In 2006 he directed the singing competition Super Singer. He returned to the reality space in 2018, directing Jodi Number 1 and Kings of Dance for Vijay Television.
