Rajshree Thakur was born on 22 September 1981 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, where she grew up in a middle-class family. From an early age she showed an interest in dance, a talent she developed during her school years. Before entering mainstream television acting, Thakur worked as a Marathi newsreader at All India Radio and then appeared in a number of advertising campaigns.

Career

Thakur’s on-screen career includes film and television work. She appeared in the Indo-French film Hava Aney Dey, a performance that led to a television offer that would change her profile. After that film, she was cast as the lead in the drama Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar, which became her signature role and brought her national recognition.

Her portrayal of Saloni Singh established her as a household name and earned several industry awards. She received the Indian Telly Award for Fresh New Face – Female and the Indian Television Academy Award for Best Actress Popular in 2006, and the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role in 2007 for the same show. Later in her career she was honored with an Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in the historical series Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.

Beyond Saat Phere, Thakur has made special appearances on television series such as Kasamh Se, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, and Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai. She also competed on reality shows including Kaho Na Yaar Hai and Ek Se Badhkar Ek. In the historical drama Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap she played Maharani Jaiwanta Bai Songara.
