Early life and background

Ramandeep Singh was born on 13 April 1997 in Chandigarh, India. Raised in a Sikh family, he attended Mount Carmel School in Chandigarh. His father, Hardev Singh, is a former international cyclist who initially hoped his son might follow in his footsteps; Ramandeep chose cricket instead and became his father’s supporter as he pursued the sport.

Ramandeep is the only child of his parents. From a young age he enjoyed various games, but watching India win the 2007 T20 World Cup deepened his commitment to cricket and set him on a clear path toward a professional career.

Career

Ramandeep came up through Mohali’s age-group sides, featuring for Mohali Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 teams. He impressed early in inter-district competitions, including scoring two centuries in the Punjab Inter-District Championship for the Mohali Under-16 side and representing Mohali in the Katoch Shield Tournament in 2017.

He made his domestic T20 debut on 29 January 2017 against Haryana, his List A debut on 5 October 2019 against Vidarbha, and his first-class debut on 12 February 2020 against Bengal. Over time he has represented Punjab in domestic competitions and developed into a genuine allrounder under the guidance of coach Sukhwinder Tinkoo and, later, with Aavishkar Salvi working with the Punjab setup.

As a cricketer he bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium. His bowling came to particular notice during the 2022–23 Vijay Hazare Trophy when he took a hat-trick against Baroda. His batting has also produced eye-catching moments: in July 2023, playing in the Shere Punjab T20 Cup for Agri King’s Knights, he hit five consecutive sixes in a single over and became widely talked about for that display of power.

Indian Premier League and franchise cricket

Ramandeep’s performances at domestic level earned him opportunities in franchise cricket. In the 2022 IPL season Mumbai Indians signed him as a replacement player and he made his IPL debut on 21 May 2022 at Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals, scoring 13 off 6 balls in that match. In December 2023 he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at the 2024 IPL auction for INR 20 lakh.

He has also captained club sides on overseas tours, leading the Reliance team during their 2022 UK tour.
