Early life and background

Rameshwar Lal Dudi was born on 1 July 1963 in Biramsar, a village in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce from B.J.S. Dudi came from a family with local business interests; his father, Jetha Ram Dudi, was an entrepreneur active in sectors such as petroleum, mining, milk and real estate and served as sarpanch of their village.

Career

Dudi entered politics after his father’s death and began at the village level. He served as Pradhan of Nokha village in Bikaner district from 1995 to 1999. Within a few years he moved to higher office: in 1999 he won the Bikaner parliamentary seat as a Congress candidate and was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution during 1999–2000. He later held the post of district chief of Bikaner in 2005.

In 2013 Dudi won election to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Nokha constituency and was chosen as Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly for the 2013–2018 term. That year he defeated his nearest rival by a significant margin. He contested the Nokha seat again in 2018 but lost to a BJP candidate by 8,663 votes. In recognition of his standing with farming communities, the Rajasthan government appointed him chairman of the Rajasthan State Agro Industries Development Board when it was created in January 2022.

Throughout his career Dudi advocated for farmers and raised demands on behalf of the Jat community in Rajasthan. His public profile combined grassroots roots with experience in both local and parliamentary-level politics.
