Early life and background

Ramita Jindal was born on 16 January 2004 in Ladwa, a town in Haryana. She grew up in a family without a formal sports background; her father, Arvind Jindal, works as an advocate and income tax advisor, and her mother, Sonika Jindal, is a homemaker. Ramita has a younger brother, Pranav Jindal, who is also involved in sports shooting. She attended Aggarsain Public School in Kurukshetra and later enrolled at Hansraj College, University of Delhi, where she pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree expected in 2024.

Career

Ramita began shooting at about age 13 while she was in eighth grade. Her first training was at the Karan Shooting Academy in Ladwa under coach Jagbir Singh, where she practiced for a couple of hours daily. She later moved to more advanced coaching at the Gun for Glory academy in Chennai. Early competitive success at district and state levels led to opportunities at national competitions.

Her junior career included a bronze medal at the CBSE National Championship in 2019 and a bronze at the Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru, in 2021–22. In 2022 she added further international junior honours with one gold and two silver medals at the International Junior World Cup.

Ramita broke through on the senior international stage in 2022. She secured medals at multiple major events that year, including two gold medals at the World Championship in Cairo in the 10m Air Rifle women’s individual and team events. She was also part of teams that won gold at the 2022 World Cup in Baku and silver at the 2022 World Cup in Changwon. At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, she became the first Indian medalist in the women’s 10m air rifle at the 2023 Games, taking bronze individually and silver in the team event.
