Early life and background

Rashmi Thackeray was born and raised in Dombivli, Maharashtra, into a middle-class family. Her father ran a small chemical production business. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at V.G. Vaze College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Mulund East, Mumbai, before beginning her professional life.

Career

Rashmi began work with the Life Insurance Corporation of India in 1987 under a 180-day contract scheme. While employed there she developed personal connections that later shaped her life and public role. Over time she established a presence in business and holds directorship positions in private companies, including Samved Real Estate Private Limited and Sahyog Dealers Private Limited. Her profile within Marathi public life grew through her association with the Shiv Sena. In March 2020 she assumed editorial responsibility for the party’s primary publications, becoming the editor of the daily Saamana and the weekly cartoon magazine Marmik. She took on the editorial role after her husband stepped down from the position to take public office.
