Early life and backgroundRaunaq Kamdar was born on 5 March 1986 in Mumbai and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He comes from a family with strong ties to architecture: his father, Alap Kamdar, is an architect who runs an architecture and interior design firm, and several of his siblings also work in the field. Raunaq completed his schooling at St. Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall in Ahmedabad, and later studied at CEPT University’s School of Architecture, where he earned a degree in architecture. During his university years he served as the cultural secretary and became increasingly involved in theatre.
Career
Raunaq’s involvement with stage drama began early. He joined his school theatre group in 2001 and performed in a steady stream of plays throughout his school and college years, taking parts in both classic and contemporary works. He expanded his training after graduation by studying at Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai and worked briefly with the theatre group Curtain Call. He has directed stage pieces and produced several plays as well.
Alongside his performing work, Raunaq has maintained a professional connection to architecture. He began working at his father’s firm, Alap Kamdar Architect, on 1 January 2011 and is a partner and director at Kamdar and Associates.
Raunaq’s screen career started with a cameo in the Hindi film Kai Po Che! (2013). He entered Gujarati cinema as a credited screen actor in 2016 with Hutututu: Aavi Ramat Ni Rutu, and that year also appeared in Tuu to Gayo. Over the following years he built a steady presence in regional films, appearing in titles such as Family Circus (2018), Have Thase Baap Re (2019), Order Order Out of Order (2019), Teacher Of The Year (2019), and 21mu Tiffin (2021). He is widely recognized for his role as Kunal in the Gujarati film Naadi Dosh (2022), and he played Viraj in Chabutro the same year. He also appeared in Darshan Ashwin Trivedi’s Lakiro (2023).
On the digital front, Raunaq made his Gujarati web-series debut with Chaskela (2021), streamed on Oho Gujarati, and in 2023 he appeared in the Hindi-language Amazon Prime Video series Happy Family: Conditions Apply, portraying Sanjuoy Dholakia.
