Ravindrasinh Anirudhsinh Jadeja was born on 6 December 1988 in NavagamGhed, Gujarat. Raised in Jamnagar, he attended Shardagram School in his native town. Jadeja grew up in a middle-class household; his father, Anirudhsinh Jadeja, worked as a watchman. His mother, Lata Jadeja, died when he was a teenager, an event that at one point led him to consider quitting cricket.

Career

Jadeja emerged through India’s age-group system, representing the country at Under-19 level and featuring in two U-19 World Cups, including the victorious 2008 campaign in which he served as vice-captain. He made his international debut in February 2009, appearing in both ODI and T20 internationals against Sri Lanka; his Test debut followed in December 2012 versus England at Nagpur.

A genuine all-rounder, Jadeja bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox. At domestic level he has represented Saurashtra and West Zone, while in the Indian Premier League he has played for franchises including Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Rajasthan Royals and has worn the jersey number 8 for India and in the IPL.
