Early life and background

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore was born on 6 November 1996 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in the city he still calls home, Sai Kishore completed schooling at Vyasa Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and went on to study at Vivekananda College, Chennai. His formal education includes a Bachelor of Computer Applications and an MBA in Analytics.

As a youngster he showed academic promise but ultimately chose to focus on cricket. He initially enrolled in an engineering college but left to pursue the sport full time, channeling his energies into developing as a left-handed batter and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler.

Career

Sai Kishore’s domestic career began to take shape in 2017. He made his List A debut for Tamil Nadu during the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in March 2017. That same year he progressed to first-class cricket, debuting in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy in October, and he made his Twenty20 debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2017–18 Zonal T20 League in January 2018.

He established himself quickly in the shorter domestic formats. In 2017 he finished as the top wicket-taker in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), claiming 22 wickets in six matches. In the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy he led Tamil Nadu’s wicket-taking with 22 scalps across six games, a performance that reinforced his reputation as an effective left-arm spinner in Indian domestic cricket.

In the 2020 Indian Premier League auction Sai Kishore was bought by Chennai Super Kings at his base price. He joined the CSK setup for training and practice, spending time under the guidance of the team’s senior players and staff. His domestic teams have included Tamil Nadu, Chepauk Super Gillies, Ruby Trichy Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings. He has also captained the Trichy Warriors in the TNPL.

International recognition arrived in 2023 when Sai Kishore made his Twenty20 international debut for India on 3 October 2023 against Nepal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Prior to that he had not played Tests or One Day Internationals for India.
