Early life and backgroundRekha Gupta was born on 19 July 1974 in Julahna, Haryana. She attended local schools including Manender Shakti Vidyalaya in Keshavpuram and Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Ashok Vihar before going on to study at Daulat Ram College and Delhi University. Gupta also completed legal studies at IMIRC College of Law affiliated to CCS University, Ghaziabad. Her academic record includes a Bachelor of Commerce, an LLB, a Master of Arts and an MBA.
Career
Gupta’s public life began in student politics. She joined the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992 and served in several student leadership posts at Delhi University through the mid-1990s, including terms as secretary and later president of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU). These early roles included work on campus safety and student services.
She entered mainstream party politics with the Bharatiya Janata Party and held positions in youth and women’s wings at state and national levels. In the 2000s she served as a councillor from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) and chaired the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee.
