Early life and background

Renu Desai was born on 4 December 1981 in Pune, Maharashtra, into a middle-class Marathi family. Raised in Pune, she showed an early interest in reading and writing; poetry and literature are noted among her personal interests. A formative childhood experience prompted her to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle at a young age. She began modeling in her mid-teens and appeared in visual media before making the move into films.

Career

Desai’s entry into the film industry came around the turn of the millennium. She made her Telugu acting debut in the 2000 film Badri, in which she played the role of Vennela. That same year she also appeared in a Tamil film, James Pandu, credited as Renu. Prior to her screen debuts she featured in a music video in 1998.
