Early life and backgroundRicha Chadda was born on 18 December 1986 in Amritsar, Punjab, and grew up in Delhi. She attended Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in New Delhi and went on to study at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, where she completed a bachelor's degree in History. She later earned a post graduate diploma in Social Communications Media. Her family includes her parents Somesh and Kusum Chadda and four younger brothers; her mother worked as a political science professor and her father is described as a businessman.
Career
Chadda began her professional life with modelling and theatre. She trained under noted theatre director Barry John and performed in stage productions across India. Before her first acting role, she worked as a writer for a magazine and also directed and wrote a short documentary titled Rooted In Hope in 2006.
Her film debut came in 2008 with Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! in which she played the role of Dolly. She came to wider attention for her portrayal of Nagma Khatoon in the two-part crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Subsequent roles established her as a performer capable of range: she played Bholi Punjaban in Fukrey (2013), Devi Pathak in Masaan (2015), and appeared in films such as Sarbjit (2016), Cabaret (2019), Section 375: Marzi Ya Zabardasti (2019), Shakeela (2020), and Madam Chief Minister (2021).
