Early life and backgroundSubhamitra Sen, known professionally as Rimi Sen, was born on 21 September 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Raised in the city she still identifies as her hometown, Rimi completed schooling at Bidya Bharati Girls' High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calcutta. Trained in Odissi and Kathak, she developed an early interest in performance and pursued acting after graduation.
Career
Rimi made her film debut in 2003 with the Hindi comedy Hungama. Her early screen work quickly drew attention and she followed that debut with roles in several commercial films, including the popular Golmaal and Garam Masala. She also worked in Telugu and Bengali films during her career in the film industry.
Recognition came early: she won the Anandolak Puraskar for Best Debut Actress for Hungama and received multiple nominations for newcomer and debut awards across Indian film ceremonies.
