RJ Karishma Biography

RJ Karishma is an Indian radio jockey, comedian, actor and social media creator from Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. She built a following through radio work—

Early life and background

Karishma Singh, known professionally as RJ Karishma, was born on 24 July 1994 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, into a Hindu middle-class family. She grew up in a joint household alongside her parents and siblings and attended a government school in Kashmir before moving for higher studies. Karishma completed a BA after enrolling at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore, where an aunt living in the city helped her relocate and pursue journalism and media courses.

From an early age she gravitated toward performance. She has said that mimicry and acting were constant parts of childhood play—impersonating characters, wearing her mother’s bangles and sari, and experimenting with voices. Although her parents initially hoped she would pursue engineering, Karishma ultimately convinced her family to support a creative path.

Career

Karishma’s professional life began after she moved to Indore and trained in media. In 2016 she auditioned for a radio jockey position. Despite telling the interviewer that her long-term goal was television acting rather than radio, she was hired. That honesty, she has said, helped secure the role.

She worked at Red FM in Indore for five years, hosting an afternoon show from 2:00 to 5:00. The slot and the characters she created for the program, notably a recurring character named Bulbul, helped raise her local profile. Over time she embraced radio work even as she continued to pursue acting.

Alongside radio, Karishma expanded into digital platforms. She uses social media and YouTube to showcase her acting and comedic sketches, turning many short videos into viral hits. Her online presence allowed her to perform a wider range of characters and brought her an audience that spans children to adults.
