Rohan Bopanna was born on 4 March 1980 in Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka. Raised in a family with roots in coffee planting, he is the son of M. G. Bopanna and Malika Bopanna and has an elder sister named Rashmi. He attended Jain University in Bangalore.

Bopanna began playing tennis at age eleven, encouraged by his father, and played other sports such as hockey and football during his childhood. Over time tennis became his primary focus, and he developed a game shaped by a strong forehand and an affinity for attacking doubles play.

Career

Bopanna turned professional in 2003 and built a lengthy career specializing in doubles. He won multiple ATP-level doubles titles and accumulated a total of 14 career doubles trophies. Early in his career he reached a notable milestone in 2007 when he attained a career-high singles ranking of 213, a point the profile identifies as a turning point.
