Rohini Sindhuri (IAS Officer) Biography
Rohini Sindhuri Dasari is an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 2009 Karnataka cadre. Trained as a chemical engineer, she moved into the civil 服务
Early life and backgroundRohini Sindhuri Dasari was born on 30 May 1984 in Rudraksha Pally, Sathupally Mandal in what was then Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh (now in Telangana). She completed a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the University of Hyderabad and briefly worked with Shell before choosing to prepare for the civil services examination. She joined the Indian Administrative Service in the 2009 batch and was allotted to the Karnataka cadre.
Career
Sindhuri’s administrative career has included a range of district- and state-level responsibilities in Karnataka. Early postings listed in public records include Assistant Commissioner in Tumkur (2011) and a role as Commissioner of the urban development department in Tumkur (2012). She moved to Bangalore to work on the Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department’s Self Employment Project (SEP) in 2013 and served as Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, Mandya in 2014.
While in Mandya she led a large sanitation drive that aimed to provide household toilets to more than 100,000 households during 2014–15. That campaign contributed to Mandya’s strong performance under the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme and brought wider recognition for the district’s sanitation work. In Mandya she also introduced an app to enable citizens to download property documents, and she pushed programmes on drinking water, sustainable farming and campaigns against female foeticide.
Subsequent roles included Managing Director of the Karnataka Food & Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (KFCSC) in 2015 and Deputy Commissioner of Hassan district in 2017. As Deputy Commissioner in Hassan she took actions on local governance issues, education and resource management: reported improvements in SSLC results and efforts against illegal sand mining were noted during her tenure. In 2018 she contested a premature transfer order by approaching the Election Commission and later the Karnataka High Court; after an extended legal process she was reinstated as Hassan’s Deputy Commissioner on 25 June 2018.
Later postings have included Mysuru-related responsibilities and a position in the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments as Muzrai Deputy Commissioner.
Public profile
Sindhuri’s time in office has drawn public attention for both administrative initiatives and disputes. Her enforcement of rules in relation to use of government premises and her handling of contracts while in Hassan generated disagreement with local politicians. A high-profile disagreement over a transfer order in 2018 became the subject of legal proceedings before she was reinstated.
In subsequent years she has been involved in public disputes with other officials and public figures. An IAS colleague who resigned in 2021 alleged harassment linked to administrative oversight; Sindhuri denied those claims and characterised her requests for documents as routine. A civil and criminal defamation suit was filed against her in 2022 by a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly alleging defamatory statements; the complainant sought a written apology and compensation. Around the same time a public complaint from a private individual about alleged land encroachment mentioned Sindhuri and her husband; Sindhuri and her husband denied any wrongdoing and called the allegations baseless.
In early 2023 a dispute on social media with another senior bureaucrat included public accusations and counter-statements, with both officers indicating further legal or administrative action.
