Early life and background
Rohit Kumar Paudel was born on 2 September 2002 in Buddha Basti village, Bardaghat-14 municipality in Nawalparasi district, Nepal. Raised in a Hindu family, he grew up in Bardaghat-14 and began playing informal tennis-ball cricket as a child, competing with siblings and friends from an early age. His formal cricket education began after he moved to Kathmandu and joined the Baluwatar Cricket Academy, where he received foundational coaching from Sunil Lama and later worked with batting consultant Monty Desai.

Career
Paudel made rapid progress through Nepal’s youth system, representing the national Under-19 side at key regional tournaments including the 2018 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and the 2020 Asian qualification event for the Under-19 World Cup. He first appeared in List A cricket on 8 February 2018 for Nepal against Namibia in Windhoek, and within months made his One Day International debut on 3 August 2018 versus the Netherlands. His T20 debut for Nepal came on 31 January 2019 against the United Arab Emirates.

As a right-handed batter who also bowls right-arm off-break medium, Paudel established himself as a significant run-scorer for Nepal. He became the first Nepali player to reach 1,000 ODI runs and, as of June 2023, is Nepal’s leading run-scorer in the 50-over international format. Early in his career he produced memorable performances at youth level — including a high-impact cameo in an Under-19 match where he struck 24 off five balls — and he carried that momentum into senior international cricket with milestone innings such as his first ODI half-century, a 55 against the United Arab Emirates on 26 January 2019, and his maiden ODI century, 126 off 107 balls against Papua New Guinea on 25 March 2023.

Paudel has also featured regularly across Nepal’s domestic T20 competitions. He played for Kathmandu in the inaugural Dhangadhi Premier League, was part of the Pokhra Paltan side that won the Pokhra Paltan League in November 2018, and has represented franchises including Biratnagar Super Kings, Bhairahawa Gladiators and Pokhra Paltan in Nepal’s domestic T20 circuits.

Leadership and honours
In recognition of his form and leadership potential, the Cricket Association of Nepal awarded Paudel a central contract in September 2020. On 11 November 2022 he was appointed captain of Nepal in all formats. Under his captaincy Nepal won the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup in May 2023, a victory that secured Nepal’s qualification for the 2023 Asia Cup. Earlier in his career he captained Nepal’s Under-19 team and helped Nepal claim a bronze medal at the South Asian Games.

Accolades and recognition
Paudel’s performances have been acknowledged with awards and local honours. He was named Emerging Cricketer of the Year at the NCCS-CPAN Cricket Awards in 2019 and was selected as a marquee player for the Biratnagar Super Kings in 2022. Multiple civic and sporting organizations, including his home municipality and regional sports committees, honoured him in 2023 for his contributions to Nepalese cricket.

Style of play and views
A compact batter standing around 1.63 m (5'4"), Paudel bats right-handed and provides occasional off-break medium pace bowling. He has expressed a belief that playing longer formats, such as four-day cricket, would help improve Nepali players’ skills and temperament, and has spoken about the value of broader match exposure for the national side.

Public profile
Off the field, Paudel has engaged with commercial opportunities and endorsements. On 29 May 2023 he signed a one-year ambassadorship with Generation Next Consulting Group, effective from 1 June 2023. He has maintained a public presence on social media, using platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

Latest updates
By mid-2023 Paudel held the record for the most ODI runs for Nepal. He continued to lead the national side after being appointed captain in late 2022, guiding Nepal to its first qualification for the Asia Cup via the ACC Men’s Premier Cup in 2023. In June 2023 he was receiving regular recognition at home for his achievements and remained a central figure in Nepal’s plans across formats.
