Early life and backgroundRohit Abhinav Roy was born on 5 April 1968 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He spent his childhood in Ahmedabad, where he attended St. Xavier’s School and later graduated from St. Xavier’s College with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in physics. He originally considered pursuing an MBA in the United States but was unable to because his visa application was rejected.
Rohit comes from a Bengali background. He is the younger brother of actor Ronit Roy and later became brother-in-law to actor Sharman Joshi through his marriage to Manasi Joshi. He and Manasi married on 23 June 1999 and have a daughter, Kiara Bose Roy.
Career
Rohit Roy’s screen career began in the mid-1990s. His early work includes a lead role in the Hindi film Jazbaat (1994). On television he made his mark with roles in serials that include Tujh Pe Dil Qurban (1995) and the Doordarshan hit Swabhimaan (1995), where he gained recognition for his performance as Rishabh Malhotra. Over the years he has worked across formats — television serials, telefilms, short films, feature films in multiple languages, theatre, hosting, dubbing and production.
On television he has appeared in serials such as Kabhie Kabhie (1997), Baat Ban Jaaye (1998) and Sanjivani (2019). He has taken part in reality shows including Nach Baliye Season 1 (2005), Yeh Hai Jalwa (2008), Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 (2013) and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 13 (2023).
