Early life and background

Rohit Gurunath Sharma was born on 30 April 1987 in Bansod, Nagpur, Maharashtra, and grew up in the Mumbai area. His family moved when he was very young and he spent part of his childhood in suburbs such as Dombivali and Borivali. He attended Our Lady of Vailankanni High School and Swami Vivekanand International School and later enrolled at Rizvi College in Mumbai before leaving college to focus on cricket. He completed schooling up to the 12th standard.

Career

Rohit Sharma made his international debut in ODIs on 23 June 2007 against Ireland and played his first T20 international on 19 September 2007 versus England. His Test debut came later, on 6 November 2013 against the West Indies in Kolkata. Over a long international career he established himself as a right-handed opening batsman and occasional right-arm off-spin bowler. He wears the jersey number 45 for India and in the Indian Premier League.

In Tests he played 67 matches, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57. His Test record includes 12 centuries and a highest score of 212, along with a double century among those hundreds.
