Early life and background
Leati Joseph Anoa'i was born on May 25, 1985, in Pensacola, Florida. He grew up in a family with a deep Samoan wrestling tradition: his father is former wrestler Sika Anoa'i, and his late older brother Matthew Anoa'i (Rosey) also worked in the business. Reigns attended Pensacola Catholic High School for the first three years of his secondary education before completing his senior year at Escambia High School, where he earned recognition as Defensive Player of the Year after a standout senior season.

Reigns went on to play college football at the Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in management.
