Raised partly in Ahmedabad, he attended Ankur School and later pursued higher studies at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. His upbringing included exposure to his Bengali heritage and a family environment that later produced another actor, his younger brother Rohit Roy.
Before breaking into acting, Roy completed a diploma in hotel management and worked in hospitality roles — learning the business from the ground up by doing internships and odd jobs in a Mumbai hotel.
