Early life and background

Rupal Patel was born on 2 January 1975 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a lower-middle-class family, she grew up speaking Gujarati and developed an interest in acting from an early age. Patel went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce and pursue formal acting training; her studies include the National School of Drama in New Delhi and further acting coursework. She lists reading and travelling among her personal interests.

Career

Patel began her screen career with the 1985 film Mehak. After that debut she appeared in a number of films, including Antarnaad, Mammo, Samar and Sambar Salsa. She moved into television at the start of the 2000s, making her Hindi TV debut with the serial Shagun in 2001 and appearing in Gujarati television with Sau Dada Sasuna in 2002.

Her most widely recognized work came with the role of Kokila Modi in the television soap Saath Nibhaana Saathiya. The character became a defining part of her career and brought her broad public recognition. In 2019 she took on the role of Meenakshi Rajvansh in Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke.

Alongside her screen work, Patel has an active connection to theatre. After completing her training at the National School of Drama she worked in numerous Gujarati stage productions and she owns a theatre company called Panorama Art Theatres.
