S Yashasri Biography

Soppadhandi Venugopal Yashasri is an Indian cricketer from Hyderabad who bowls right-arm medium-fast and bats right-handed. She has represented Hyderabad,

Early life and background

Soppadhandi Venugopal Yashasri was born on 4 September 2003 in Hyderabad. She grew up in the city and attended Indus International School, Hyderabad. Her father, Venugopal, played divisional cricket in his youth and later worked for the Indian Air Force before taking VRS and joining Canara Bank. Her mother is K Vidya, and she has a brother named Srikiran.

As a child Yashasri tried several sports, including kho-kho, swimming, and basketball. Cricket was not her first interest; she only decided to pursue the game after seeing a friend bat during an inter-school match. When her school team needed players in 2016 she joined and discovered her potential as a bowler, a role that suited her height.

Her parents supported her sporting ambitions despite discouragement from some who felt girls had limited prospects in cricket. Early coaching came from Bhavan’s Cricket Academy and later from Iqbal Cricket Academy in Hyderabad. Mohd Iqbal is listed as one of her coaches, and former Hyderabad player Kanishk Naidu also provided support by charging reduced fees during her development.

Career

Yashasri is a right-hand batter and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who has played domestic cricket for Hyderabad Women. She appeared for Hyderabad in the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy for the 2021–22 season.

At age 13 she began watching televised matches closely to learn situational play, and she progressed through local academies into representative cricket. She was named to India’s Under-19 squad for the India Women U19 tour of South Africa in 2022–23, where she took four wickets across two T20 matches.

Though not initially selected for India’s squad announced in December 2022 for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, she was later added to the team as a replacement when another player suffered an injury. India won the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating England in the final; Yashasri appeared in one match during the tournament and was part of the championship group.

In 2023 she entered the professional auction for the Women’s Premier League and was acquired by UP Warriorz. The published auction amount for her signing was Rs. 10 Lakh. She has described the moment she learned of being picked as happening while she was at the gym and recalled feeling very happy but keeping her reaction private in that setting.

Public profile

Yashasri’s listed physical attributes include a height of approximately 175 cm (1.75 m, 5'9"), with black hair and black eyes. Her playing style features right-hand batting and right-arm medium-fast bowling. Her favorite cricketers include Hardik Pandya, Ben Stokes, and Umesh Yadav.

Personal notes

She is unmarried. Yashasri has said that growing up she had little of a social life because of her focus on cricket, and that she prioritized training over her studies, attending school mainly for examinations. Her family — particularly her father and the coaches who supported her — is credited with enabling her development as a player.

Latest updates

As of 2023 she was part of the UP Warriorz squad in the Women’s Premier League after being purchased at the auction. Earlier, she was a member of India’s U19 setup during the South Africa tour and was included in the U19 World Cup squad as a replacement.
