Although she reportedly expressed an interest in taking part in politics at one point, she said her husband declined that idea.
Personal life and family
Sadhna married Chandraprakash Gupta, a grocer from Farrukhabad, on 4 July 1986; that marriage ended in divorce in 1990. A brother-in-law, Promod Gupta, served one term as an MLA in Uttar Pradesh and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party government in 2022.
Her relationship with Mulayam Singh Yadav attracted media attention and became a notable aspect of the Samajwadi family’s public story. Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam’s son from his first marriage, recorded episodes from the 1980s in which Sadhna visited Mulayam’s household to assist during the illness of his mother, Murti Devi. Those accounts describe how Sadhna’s intervention during a medical incident contributed to the beginnings of her relationship with Mulayam.
