Early life and backgroundSafin Hasan was born on 21 July 1995 in Palanpur, Gujarat, and grew up in the nearby town of Kanoodar. He completed his early schooling at S K M High School in Kanodar and later attended Ascent School of Science in Palanpur. From a young age he showed academic promise, earning 92 percent in his class 10 board exams and choosing the science stream for higher secondary study.
His family faced financial constraints while he was growing up. His parents worked in diamond-unit jobs to support the household, and additional part-time work by family members helped meet educational expenses. A local school reduced his fees to make continuing his studies easier, and he supported himself at times by giving tuitions to younger children during vacation periods.
A defining moment for his career ambitions came when a district Collector visited his school. Observing the respect shown to that public official motivated him to pursue a career in the civil services. He later earned a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat.
Career
Safin prepared for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations in New Delhi. Financial help from a couple identified as Husainbhai and Jarinaben made his coaching and exam-related expenses possible; he has described their support as pivotal. During his preparation he sought guidance from serving IAS and IPS officers and volunteered with non-governmental organizations in his free time.
His path to selection involved several setbacks. In 2017, on his way to sit the UPSC exam for the first time, he suffered an accident that caused injuries to his hand, leg, and head; despite this, he attended the exam and required hospitalization and surgery afterward. Illness also affected him during the 2018 selection process: hospital admissions for infection and related complications delayed him but did not stop him from appearing for his interview on 23 March 2018. He achieved an All India Rank of 570 in the UPSC and scored the second-highest marks in the personality test.
Selected for the Indian Police Service in the 2018 batch, Safin was assigned to the Gujarat cadre. On 23 December 2019 he took charge as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He has expressed that his original aim had been the Indian Administrative Service, but he chose to embrace his role in the IPS and use it to serve the country.
Public profile
Safin received recognition in the media and was featured on news channels and radio following his selection. He was publicly felicitated by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. At the time he became notable for being one of the youngest persons to enter the IPS, reportedly achieving the distinction at age 22.
Outside his police duties, Safin is known for social work and volunteer activity with NGOs. He is a dog lover and has been photographed with members of the police K-9 unit.
Personal life
Safin is an unmarried Muslim from the Julaya community. His father is named Mustafa Hasan and his mother is Naseembanu; both worked in diamond-related units. He has a younger brother, Asnain Hasan. He stands around 1.78 meters tall, with black eyes and black hair. Hobbies listed for him include doing social work and spending time with disadvantaged communities.
