Early life and backgroundSajid Kamran Khan was born on 23 November 1971 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra. He grew up in the city where his family life included periods of separation between his parents. He attended Maneckji Cooper Education Trust School and later studied at SVKM’s Mithibai College and the Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics. He completed a college degree in psychology.
From a young age he showed an interest in performing: he took part in dance competitions at school and college, practised mimicry while living in a chawl, and even performed as a child backup dancer in a film sequence. These early activities fed into his later career in television and film.

Sajid Khan launched his media career on television. His first regular hosting role came on the DD Metro game show Superhit Muqabla in 1990. Over the 1990s he presented other TV formats including Main Bhi Detective and Ikke Pe Ikka, the latter earning recognition for its run with the same host.
